God Desires To Communicate With Us
“O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.” - Psalm 139:1-4
Few passages in the Bible tell us more about the character of God as it applies to His relationship with us. This Psalm can be simply outlined as follows:
(1) How well does God know me? vv 1-6
(2) How close is God to me? vv 7-12
(3) How carefully has God made me? vv 13-16
(4) How well does God protect me? vv 19-29
God knows all there is to know; therefore, He knows all our past, all our present, and even our future. Yet, knowing everything, He still desires to have an intimate relationship with us. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with Him...” Jesus desires above all to “dine” with us, that is to have time of intimate fellowship – to communicate with us on a deep spiritual level.
Hebrews 1:1, 2 says, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son...” All through history God has spoken. Now He speaks through His Son. Before Christ’s death on the cross, we were separated from God. The veil in the Jewish temple separated people from the “Holy of Holies” —the place where God dwelt. Only the High Priest could enter behind the veil once a year in order to make sacrifices to God. After the sacrifice of Jesus dying on the cross, the veil of the temple was torn in half by the hand of God (Matthew 27:51). This signified that now through receiving Jesus, we can have fellowship with Him, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. He still stands at your heart’s door and knocks. Open the door and “dine” with Jesus.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I need to hear from You today. I sense You are knocking on my heart’s door. Please come in and help me to know Your love and Your direction for my life. I do not wish for a normal, everyday devotional time. I desire to hear from You, to sense Your touch, to know Your fellowship.
