The Tabernacle and the Veil

In the Old Testament, God's presence was symbolized by the Ark of the Covenant, located in the Holy of Holies. The Ark was hidden behind a veil that separated mankind from God. The veil represented the barrier between a holy God and sinful humanity. Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year, sprinkling the blood of a goat to atone for the sins of the people. This process pointed forward to a permanent sacrifice that would come through Jesus.

When Jesus died, the veil was torn from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51). This act symbolized that through Christ's sacrifice, the barrier was removed. We now have direct access to God through Jesus' blood, no longer needing a high priest to mediate for us. Praise God that through Jesus, the way to God's presence is open to all who believe.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for tearing the veil that separated us from You. Thank You for giving us direct access to Your presence through the sacrifice of Jesus. Help me to always treasure this privilege and draw near to You with a pure heart. Amen.
