Waiting Upon The Lord
“Love the LORD, all you his saints!
The LORD preserves the faithful
but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the LORD!” - Psalm 31:23, 24
Hope implies that we are waiting for something in the future. These thoughts of the future can fill us with doubt, worry, and fear even though it is said that ninety-five percent of the things we worry about never happen. But what about the other five percent?
In Psalm 31, the Psalmist vacillated between doubt and faith. Although resolute to remain faithful to God during trials, the psalmist acknowledged that the Lord does not always solve problems instantly.
The existence of hope implies there is something in the future we have yet to receive, and the “not yet received” implies waiting. None of us likes to wait. We live in a society that wants instant success, instant answers to prayer, instant relationships, and instant problem solving. Yet waiting is a constant theme of the Bible. And when we wait, we witness the faithfulness of God.
Our mandate is to remain faithful to Him, not only in times of trial, but also as we wait for His promises to be fulfilled.
Hebrews 10:36 teaches us, “ For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Sometimes its not faith that we lack, but patience. Let’s wait on the Lord as we place our hope in Him.
