How Much Does God Love Us?
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:31-39
How high, how deep, how wide is the love of God? When I journeyed on my first mission trip to India, I felt great apprehension. The stories of persecution, bad water, and questionable food found me going to the throne of grace more often than usual. My fears were confronted as I stood before a small group of Hindus to share the good news of Jesus Christ. The look on their faces was sobering. Amidst their great poverty, poor physical health and hopelessness, they truly were hungry to know the truth of God’s love. Their eyes spoke of desperation and the hope they sought in my words.
The message was simple, “"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Several embraced the message and one man in particular was drawn by God’s heart, as his eyes glistened with tears. I was touched. I truly realized that the love of God is so wide and deep that it embraces people across the entire world. I was met by a revolutionary and amazing realization. God loves people that I will never see, nor will ever meet.
How deep and wide is the love of God? Deep enough to include you. Sometimes we are not included. Classmates exclude us because we are not cool enough. Fellow workers exclude us because we are not sharp enough. Sometimes even churches exclude us because we are not good enough. Christ includes you.
How can we describe the width of His love? He stretched one hand to the right and the other to the left of a crossbeam and they were nailed in position, so you could experience His love.
Max Lucado writes, “Is there a limit to His love? You’d think so. But David the adulterer never found it. Peter the liar never found it. When it came to life, they hit rock bottom. But when it came to God’s love, they never did.”
Know that today, Christ includes you. You can never get beyond His love.
