Depending on God’s Character
Reading: Matthew 11: 20-24
Devotional: Trusting in God’s character is the heart of dependence. In my book, “When God Says Yes” I remind us that God’s nature is the reason we can confidently lean on Him, especially when life’s answers are delayed or unclear. Dependence is rooted in knowing God is trustworthy.
God’s character is marked by love and faithfulness. He is a God who keeps His promises and cares deeply for His children. This means that when God says “yes” to our prayers, it is because He desires what is best for us, not because we have earned it.
Dependence means surrendering our need to control outcomes and resting in God’s perfect timing. It means believing that God’s “yes” aligns with His good purposes, even if it looks different than we expect. Trusting God’s character allows us to wait patiently without despair.
Scripture reminds us that God’s plans are good and that He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). When we depend on Him, we find comfort and strength to persevere. Dependence is not weakness; it is the courageous act of trusting a God who never fails.
Reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life. How has He shown His love and kept His promises? Use these memories to fuel your trust today. Dependence grows as we experience God’s goodness and remember His character.
Let your heart rest in God’s trustworthy nature. Depend on Him fully, knowing that His “yes” is always perfect and timely. This trust transforms waiting into worship and uncertainty into hope.
