Going the Distance
Reading: Hebrews 10:36-39 and 12:1,2 — “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Devotional: Endurance is essential for the Christian life. In “Going the Distance,” Let me remind you that spiritual vertigo can cause us to lose balance and want to quit. Yet, God calls us to persevere, running the race with endurance. Hebrews 12:1 exhorts believers to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Spiritual vertigo often comes from fatigue, confusion, or discouragement. When the path seems long and obstacles appear overwhelming, it’s easy to feel doubt and lose focus. But God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). He empowers us to keep moving forward, step by step.
Perseverance is not about rushing or pushing ourselves to exhaustion; it’s about steady, faithful progress. It’s about trusting God’s timing and relying on His grace daily. Like an athlete pacing for a marathon, we must conserve our spiritual energy and keep our eyes on Jesus.
Reflect today: Where do you feel weary or tempted to give up? Ask God to renew your strength and help you run your race with endurance. Remember that every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to the finish line God has prepared.
