David’s Plea For Help
"My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;
my neighbors stay far away.
Those who want to kill me set their traps,
those who would harm me talk of my ruin;
all day long they scheme and lie.
I am like the deaf, who cannot hear,
like the mute, who cannot speak;
I have become like one who does not hear,
whose mouth can offer no reply.
Lord, I wait for you;
you will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, “Do not let them gloat
or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
For I am about to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.
I confess my iniquity;
I am troubled by my sin.
Many have become my enemies without cause[b];
those who hate me without reason are numerous.
Those who repay my good with evil
lodge accusations against me,
though I seek only to do what is good.
Lord, do not forsake me;
do not be far from me, my God.
Come quickly to help me,
my Lord and my Savior." - Psalm 38:11-22
Our sin will affect every part of our lives. Sin isolates us and keeps us from fellowship with God. This affects our disposition and personality and, therefore, our relationships with others. David was, in every aspect of life, affected because of his sin. Rather than suffer like Job, who requested answers from God, David isolated himself (v.13). He stated that his friends had abandoned him and his enemies sought to destroy him. Although he had done no wrong to the people, they were attacking him (v.20). Those around him were repaying evil for good.
As we walk away from God and remain in sinful ways, He often uses others to correct us. Sin has a way of isolating us, whether it is because of pride, lack of faith, lust, greed, or anger at God. We often live so long in sin, we are hardened by it. We do not want to hear rebuke (v.13).
Sometimes we do not want to socialize with others for fear they will see through us. Depression sets in and relationships are adversely affected. Usually, others will not know what is in our hearts. However, God will use those around us to bring us to our knees at the cross, even if its people who have bad intentions. The Bible teaches that those who return evil for good will themselves face punishment. However, God can use them to gain our attention and convict us in our problem areas.
Come to the cross today. Repent and enjoy your salvation again.
